I did ROTC my freshman year while serving in the Guard. They kept telling me to compete for a contract and earn my spot blah blah. Well I worked my ass off and got nothing. I scored a 300 on PT, knew all my basic soldiering skills etc. Realistically they only contract when you are a junior. It is a waste of their money to contract you earlier.
